With many people talking about "going green" lately, that I started to research it some. It's not as hard as one would think. The first thing I did was to become more "crunchy" myself. I started making some mama cloths, bought a
Diva cup, and made some Cloth diapers for my kids.
Mama Cloths: a cloth version of a menstrual pad. They can be made from different materials, my current favorite is flannel topped with microfiber insert and PUL backing (a water resistant fabric) SInce I have started using the cloth and Diva cup, my monthly friends have had a drastic change! They have gone from very heavy flow for 7-8 days and then a couple days of spotting to 2-3 days of light flow and 1-2 spotting, a HUGE HUGE difference! And they are so easy to wash, I rinse them in cold water when I switch pads and then throw in the washer with the rest of the laundry (warm wash, cold rinse) Hang on the bars to dry and your good to go!
Cloth Diapers: I started out looking for a way to save money and not having the disposible diapers piling up during the summer months. I immemdiately fell in love with them and I have been doing then now for almost 7 months. I started out making pocket diapers with microfiber inserts for my son and since they have worked so well, I just kept making them. Now I also sell them in
my store Washing is the same as my mama cloths above!
Other ways to help the enviornment and going green:Un-Paper Towels: This is the cloth version disposible paper towels. I just made some for christmas presents and I need to make them for myself now cause they were so cool! They were double sidded flannel with snaps on them so that i could still have them on the paper towel dispenser, and be able to pop them off when I need them. When they were dirty, you just throw them in with your regular laundry.
Family Cloth: Family cloth might be a bigger adjustment for some more than others. Family cloth is the fabric version of toilet paper. This save money on TP, and also saves the septic system if you have one of them like me. You just wipe, throw in the basket or bag and throw in the wash with the other laundry. (if that gross you out to much to put in with your cloths, you can wash seperatley. I wash barn cloths so it doesn't bother me) You can also use them as wash cloths and also tissues.
I know there are other ways to also go green, as I am still learning about these I will post them! Any way to help the enviornment and also save some green is the way to go!
